Food: When Excitement Turns to Disappointment?
It’s almost as if your success makes people feel guilty
He was so excited! His new nutrition plan was working, and he was feeling fantastic. I heard about all of it — how much energy he had, how much weight he was losing, how easy it all was. I stood and listened with a huge grin. He was even reading my book and wanted my autograph!
I couldn’t help but think of the many times I’d been “cornered” by new practitioners of good nutrition with similar stories. Nothing can stand in their way: they’re committed and exuberant and have renewed enthusiasm for their workouts.
Naturally, they want to share this new knowledge with friends and family. And that’s where the trouble starts.
After a few of these passionate monologues, our new Healthy Food Fan told me he’ll never again share with friends what he’s been doing because “they’re jealous.” Those were his words.
Apparently, he gets no support from these other people. Some even want him to go back to the way he used to eat.
Have you noticed anything like this? It’s almost as if your success makes people feel guilty about not making changes in their own nutrition.
